    Principal Traci Westman’s message of the day: Life is a gift. Never forget to enjoy and bask in every moment you are in.


    Attendance Matters: Our overall goal for the year is to have 95% of students in school every day, throughout the year. If your child is ill, by all means keep them home until they are well, but otherwise, please help us reach our goal! Today’s attendance is 93.9% so 51 students were absent today.

    Safety Reminders: We have had several people ask us to do a reminder to parents about safety when arriving and leaving school with children. Your child’s safety is our first priority and we would ask that you follow these simple rules to help keep them safe.

    • Please use the crosswalk when crossing the street. Our kids are watching and learn by our examples.
    • Please use the car drop off lane in the morning when dropping kids at school rather than parking and walking through the parking lot. There is lots of teacher traffic in the lot at this time and sometimes little ones are very hard to see.
    • When driving in the parking lots, please enter and go around the lot in a clockwise manner.


    Candy Fundraiser Pick Up: Candy Orders will be ready for pick up at Pell on Tuesday Dec 11th from 4-6pm.  All orders must be picked up and will not be sent home with students. If you have any questions please contact the Pell PTO at


    Book Fair: Don’t forget to check out the book fair during parent teacher conferences! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Pell! Preview week will be the week of November 26th. Students will go through the fair with their class during library special. Then the book fair will be open for purchases December 3-7th. We need volunteers...we need YOU! Volunteering at the Book Fair is the perfect way to stay connected to your child at school and help students find the books they can't wait to read. The theme is The Enchanted Forest: Let your imagination grow!! Sign up now and get ready for a fun and rewarding volunteer experience. Set up is 11/21, preview is the week of 11/26 and sales  week begins 12/3 with open hours during conferences and pack up is at 2:30, 12/7. Come help us enchant the children with books!!     Updated Discipline section in student handbook: We have updated out student handbook, under the discipline section to include “Accordingly, students are prohibited from engaging in behavior that: Obstructs, disrupts or interferes with any educational, administrative, disciplinary or other activities, the use of vulgar, inappropriate, and swear words. If you would like a copy of the handbook, please contact your child’s teacher.


    Newport Public School’s Holiday Happenings:


    Pell Chorus Performance, The pell Chorus Performance is scheduled for Friday, December 14th, 2018. Performers should arrive at Pell Elementary School by 6:30 pm and should be dressed as if they were having their pictures taken.
    The concert will start at 7:00 pm, and it will end at 7:30 pm. There is no cost for the concert, and it is open to the public.

    Caroling on Broadway, Thursday, Dec 13, 3:30 pm. Starting at the Colony House and sponsored by the Off Broadway Neighborhood Assoc. Join local musician Christopher Carbone, Thompson Middle School chorus and OBNA in a caroling along Broadway. All are welcome to participate. 401-481-5135.


    Student's Impressions of Christmas in Newport, Thursday, Dec. 13, 5:30 pm, Newport Yacht Club, 110 Long Wharf. Students K-12 art exhibit, commemorative Christmas in Newport postmark by United States Postal Service. Free, light refreshments. 846-9410


    Six Flags Six Hour Reading Program: Pell school is participating in an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun. Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading between December 1st and February 27th is eligible for a free admission ticket, valid at Six Flags Theme Park. A parent letter and reading log will be coming home with students this week. Please check back packs for them and encourage your kids to read, read ,read!!


    Look for the Good Project: Look for the Good Project: We are pleased to announce Pell School is again participating in the Look for the Good Project.  The Look for the Good Project is a Gratitude and Anti Bullying campaign that asks students to identify the good they see in everyday life.  Over the course of 2 weeks, Pell students will add a daily gratitude sticky note to the gratitude walls throughout the school. Students choose what they are grateful for that day, no gratitude is too small.  Students will also participate in kindness cards and the older students will write a letter to a person who has had an impact in their life. The gratitude walls will remain up through the end of the year so parents have an opportunity to read some of the notes.  The project will kicked off this week. To help support the Look for the Good the 4th Grade will be selling glow in the dark Look for the Good bracelets.  The bracelets are 1.00 each and are a great reminder to look for the good everyday. Bracelet sales take place during breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria.

    PTO News

    There is no December PTO meeting. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.

    As part of the Look for the Good Program the PTO will be building a Gratitude Tree. You should have received a paper with leaves to cut out and write what you are grateful for. If you did not receive one, please reach out to the school and we will send one home. This is great way to talk about the Look for the Good Program at home. Please send your leaf back to school before next Friday. And feel free to decorate the leaf! Some classroom worked on the leaves during class, but feel free to send more in! We can always build a Gratitude Forrest if needed!

    Community Happenings:

    Jingle Mingle at the Florence Gray Center: Tuesday, December 18th, 4-7 pm at the Florence Gray Center, 1 York St. Newport. Let's celebrate the year together. Bring your children and enjoy cookie decorating, activities, fun, and maybe a visit from YOU KNOW WHO ;)!

  • Champion Childcare Registration is open for the 2018-2019 school year.  Champion Childcare is a 4 Star Bright Stars rated program offered on site at the Pell Elementary School. 

    Morning care will be open from 6:30 am - 8:30 am; afternoon care will be open from school dismissal to 6:00 pm.  We accept DHS subsidies and also offer full pay, sliding scale, sibling discounts, and employee rates.  The application is available at the link below or on site at Pell.  A $30 registration fee is required at the time of registration to confirm your child's slot.  Please contact Christine Arouth at 842-1925 x1 for more information.
