    Course description: The first quarter of English 9 will focus on a writer's workshop to introduce the students to different genres of writing. We will also introduce the Robert Frost author study later in the first quarter. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements. Work in the first quarter will help prepare students for the response to literature PBA on Robert Frost which will be assigned in the second quarter.
     
    The second quarter of English 9 will consist of completing a response to literature PBA on a poem by Robert Frost. Later in the second quarter we will begin a unit on William Shakespeare's tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements. Work in the second quarter will help prepare students for the persuasive PBA that is part of the unit of study for Romeo and Juliet.
     
    The third quarter of English 9 will focus on completing the persuasive PBA for Romeo and Juliet, as well as introduce our final unit of study, which will be looking at memoir. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements. Work in the third quarter will help students prepare for the memoir PBA, which will be assigned in the fourth quarter.
     
    The fourth quarter of English 9 will focus on students completing the memoir unit and the memoir PBA. Angela's Ashes and Living Up the Street will be utilized as supplemental texts. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements.
