Pell Announcements

  • Due to the National Grid situation, the Newport Public Schools will be closed for the rest of this week, January 23-25, 2019. Services for our backpack programs for our Pell Elementary families as well as a place to provide food services beginning tomorrow morning for those families impacted by this is being coordinated and an update on times and locations will be provided as plans are finalized. We urge all families to find a safe warm place to stay and to take advantage of the hotel rooms, warming centers, and transportation services available by calling 211.

We will send a further update out before 6:00 pm today with more information to help support families impacted by this situation.

  • Newport Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, due to the heating situation the buildings are experiencing due to the National Grid natural gas situation on Aquidneck Island. We understand many homes are without heat this evening and want everyone to know there is a warming center open at Gaudet Middle School on Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. The school department will keep families updated as best as possible on Tuesday regarding any future school closures.

Your views on matters like the safety of your child at school, the way students are taught, the condition of the school, and how connected you feel to this school are important. By taking this short survey you can help our school leadership and our parent-teacher organization to make improvements to our school. Responses are anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual; no one can tie your responses back to you.  You can take the short survey online between January 14th and March 31th. To take the survey, visit: The code for Pell school is: 21107family
