Attendance Matters: Is the goal of Pell School to have at least 95% of our students in school every day because studies show that students who have good attendance in their early years of school, have a much better success and graduation rate than those with inconsistent attendance. Today, we had 96% of students in attendance, 33 students were absent.

Picture Days!: Pictures days have been scheduled from October 21st to October 25th for Pell. We will be taking 4th grade on Monday, 3rd grade tuesday, 2nd grade Wednesday, 1st grade on thursday and K on Friday. Envelopes will be left with teachers to send home on tuesday. Please return the envelope on the day of pictures or preorder on my website any time before picture day at www.newport-ri-photography.com.If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Jennifer at (401) 837-0554

School Design Meetings: During the coming weeks, the School Building Committee will hold a series of meetings to share and explore broad design ideas and sketches facilitated by our educational facilities planning firm StudioJAED. Input and participation of our staff, parents, and the community as a whole is critical as StudioJAED designs a facility that aligns with the educational needs and fiscal responsibilities of the community for all of our students Pre-K through High School. You are invited and encouraged to participate in one or more of the following collaborative meetings:

Tuesday, October 22 – 6 PM at the Rogers High School Cafeteria

Saturday, November 9 – 10 AM at the Pell Elementary School Cafeteria

Thursday, November 21 – 6 PM at the Pell Elementary School Cafeteria

Pumpkin Fest!- Once again Pell School will be celebrating fall with a pumpkin fest on Friday, October 25th from 6-7 pm. We will have 200 pumpkins available to pick up and take home to decorate. Then come with your pumpkin on the 25th and your pumpkin will be part of our pumpkin walk outside, along with lots of fun fall activities. At the end of the night, reclaim your pumpkin and take it home. Flyers went home this week so please check backpacks for more info.

Incredible Years Parenting: Help your child be successful… Solve problems like meltdowns... & More! Join other parents of children, kindergarten through grade 2 for a parenting group. SOCTOBER: It is time for Socktober! This year Mrs. Jewell’s students will be collecting NEW child and adult SOCKS and child UNDERWEAR. Adult socks will again be donated to the Seamen’s Institute in downtown Newport, child socks will be donated to Pell families in need (and kept for cold toes at school!) and child underwear will replenish the clothing bin at Pell.

Collection bins will be placed at both entrances to the school and collected daily by Mrs. Jewell’s class.

Every night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, we want 2 million people to prove that even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless.

Socktober is an easy and fun movement to help the homeless in your community during the month of October. Kid President creator Brad Montague launched Socktober as a way to get socks and other necessities to the homeless. www.happysocktober.com

Any questions? Contact Mrs. Jewell carlajewell@npsri.net

Whooos Reading: Pell will be running the 4th Annual Whooos Reading Fundraiser from Oct 1, 2019 to Nov 3, 2019. Here are 2 videos that explain how to participate in the Reading-Raiser:

    - How to authorize your child's Reading-Raiser account: https://youtu.be/Xc81t6If-wo

    - How to become a sponsor and invite more sponsors: https://youtu.be/JGvaXCPj8iM

Your child will receive a private online account at https://fund.whooosreading.org/ where he/she will log reading. Parent and student instructions on how to use the website will be sent home. Your child will not be able to invite any sponsors without your authorization. Follow this link to view instructions on how to use your parent account: https://fund.whooosreading.org/guides/parent?d=634.
