The Newport Area Career and Tech Center (NACTC) in partnership with Rhode Island Marine Trades Association (RIMTA) and the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) is excited to offer the popular "Earn While You Learn" Summer Boatbuilding Program. Students in the 5-week program gain work experience, leadership skills, problem-solving and communication as they work as a team to build a seaworthy vessel. This exciting program is open to youth between 14-16 years old who have expressed an interest in the marine trade or boatbuilding industry.Dates: July 15th - August 16th, Monday-Thursday, 8:30-2:00 (students must be available all 5 weeks)Location: International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS)Stipend: Students who successfully participate earn $100/week ($500)Application deadline: Monday, June 3, 2019-be 14-16 years old (as of July 1, 2019)-be from Newport or a surrounding area-be available all 5 weeks-be available for an interview-have daily transportation
Navigate Your Future - Summer Earn + Learn Program
In partnership with EBCAP and Newport Public Schools, the Boys and Girls Club of Newport is excited to offer a 4-week Navigate Your Future program for current 8th graders as they transition to high school. Navigate Your Future is a 16-day, action-packed experience where students discover a variety of 21st century careers. Student-explorers will develop real-world job skills and uncover strengths through a series of self-assessment and team building activities. Successful explorers will:
- participate in site visits, business tours and field trips
- explore a variety of careers and jobs
- use career assessment and job readiness tools
- earn a $125 weekly stipend ($500 total)
- July 22-August 15, 2019 Mon-Thurs, 8:30-2:00 @ the Florence Gray Center
- students must be 14, entering high school and available the entire 4 weeks
- no cost to students and lunch will be provided
- students will be outside of the classroom most days, doing site visits, hands on experiments and walking tours
Space is limited! Completed applications can be submitted to the TMS Guidance Office. Because this program is grant funded and students will be compensated, the application must include a copy of social security (or anchor) and birth certificate.
