Ms. Nancy Noonan

Department Head

Ms. Noonan has been teaching at Rogers High School since 2002 and has been department head since 2016. For much of her career she focused on teaching AP Literature and providing intervention for challenged 9th grade readers. In 2012 she and another teacher started The Newport Project, an interdisciplinary English-Integrated Science collaborative that provides experiential, community-based learning opportunities to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Since becoming department head, she has been teaching 9th and 10th grade CP students as well as those enrolled in The Newport Project. Ms. Noonan lives in Providence and teaches English and ELL classes at the college level in addition to her responsibilities at Rogers. When she is not teaching, she enjoys frequent visits to her daughter Isabel in Boston.

Mr. Raleigh Brennan

Raleigh Brennan is in his 15th year of education, his 12th at Rogers High School. He began his teaching career at Middletown High School (R.I), where he worked from 2004-2006, and also spent one year teaching at Thompson Middle School in Newport before arriving at RHS in 2007. Mr. Brennan served as the Dean of Students at RHS for seven years (2009-2016) before deciding to reenter the classroom with a multilayered perspective on teaching, learning and school culture. He graduated from Middletown High School in 2000, Rhode Island College in 2004 with a degree in secondary education/English and also earned a master's degree in educational administration from Providence College in 2013. Mr. Brennan lives in Newport with his wife, Meg, their son, Jameson, and their daughter, Jane.

Mrs. Melissa Henry

Reading Specialist

Melissa Henry has lived in Newport for most of her life and is a graduate of Rogers High School.  In fact, her husband and children are also alumni of Rogers. In 1992, Melissa began her teaching career with degrees in special education and elementary education.  As an educator at St. Andrew’s in Barrington, Portsmouth High School and Middletown High, she focused on reading intervention and was trained in Lindamood Bell and Orton Gillingham.  These strategies propelled her to move forward to go back to school and get her master’s in reading. Immediately after grad school in 2001, she was lucky enough to get a position in her hometown of Newport as a reading specialist, first at Sullivan School and then at Rogers, where she currently teaches a variety of literacy classes.

Mrs. Anna E. Kimes

Mrs. Kimes was born and raised in Providence, RI, graduating from Classical High School and the University of South Carolina.  She currently lives in Newport with her husband Bill and her children, Ella and William.  During her career in the Newport Public Schools, she was at the Thompson Middle School Human Services Mall from 1999-2003, a 7th grade ELA teacher at Thompson Middle School from 2005-2007, and an English teacher at Rogers High School from 2007 - present.    At the present time, Mrs. Kimes teaches 9 Honors, 12 College Prep, and AP Literature and Composition.

Nick Manson is honored to be in his first year teaching English Language Learners at Rogers High School. Nick is a graduate of RHS class of 2006. After graduating from Rhode Island College, he traveled throughout Central America, volunteering at several schools and an orphanage. Nick also enjoys helping coach basketball at Thompson Middle School and Rogers High School.

Mrs. Lauren Dunbar Moore

Mrs. Dunbar Moore is a graduate of Rogers High School class of 2002. She began teaching at Rogers in the fall of 2006 after graduating from Providence College. She lives in Newport with her husband Ralph and dog Mickey.

Mrs. Dunbar Moore currently teaches Honors 10, College Prep 10 and AP Literature and Composition.

Ms. Charlotte North

Charlotte North started teaching English in 1999. She enjoys transition years especially: working with incoming students as they navigate new expectations in high school, and also with seniors, as they turn their attention to larger questions in life and what lies beyond school corridors. This marks her third year at Rogers. 

Ms. North also has worked as an education policy researcher and writer, a curriculum writer for a large-scale adolescent reading study, and as an instructional coach and high school writing center director in Boston secondary schools. She is honored to be teaching in her family's hometown.

Mrs. Jessica Rosa

This is Jessica Rosa's 11th year of teaching at Rogers High School.  Mrs. Rosa teachers 9th Grade English, URI Writing 104 - Concurrent Enrollment Course, Film Studies and Ideology of Fairy Tales.

Over the course of her time at RHS, she has also taught 9th, 10th, and 12th College Prep, Creative Writing, Film Studies, Fairy Tales,  URI WRT 104.   She has also taught in the ALP program.  Mrs. Rosa is also trained in AP Language & Composition and AP Literature & Composition.  She currently is a member of the School Committee's AdHoc School Building Subcommittee.  She lives in Newport with her husband Chris and her two sons, Christopher and Carter.
