2015 Lafayette's Hermione Voyage

  • Brest-NewportLogo

On the occasion of the voyage of Lafayette' ship Hermione from France to the US Atlantic Coast during the summer 2015, we developped a curriculum for teachers and students to live this memorable voyage again.

Hermione is the frigate on which the Marquis de La Fayette embarked from Rochefort, France, to Boston. Lafayette then announced General Washington the arrival of the French Expeditionnary corps to support the American Insurgents leading to the Victory at Yorktown.
The reconstruction of the Hermione replica is nearly finished and will sail to the US in May 2015 visiting the sites along the East coast associated with the American War of Independence.
This will give the students and public the opportunity to visit the ship, and view a special exhibition on her construction and historical importance.

You will find attached a Power Point presentation detailing our educational project with e-communication between French and American classes on both sides of the Atlantic as well as ideas of activities and resources for the teachers.

Should your History, English, French or Natural Sciences/Environment teacher be interested in joining our program during the 2015 school year, I would be delighted to answer any of their questions and help them connect with a French school.

    Sincerely,

    Andree Madec-King
