Welcome to Mrs. Dusel’s page, for English/Language Arts, Grade 8!

I’m very excited about this year’s students. They seem motivated and ready to learn!

    A little information about me:

I graduated from Rhode Island College in 2005 with a degree in Secondary Education English, with a middle school endorsement.  I was the recipient of the Educational Studies Award. After graduation I was hired by Thompson Middle School to teach Grade 8 English, and I’ve been here in room 320 ever since! In an effort to further my expertise, I have nearly completed the Masters of Literacy program with the University of New England.  Also, I am currently working with the Highlander Institute as part of their FUSE program which has helped me to integrate technology and blended learning into my classroom. In 2015 I was selected as a Learning Pioneer with RICAN to work on Educational policy for the state of Rhode Island, and was also sent to Washington D.C. to work with Education Reimagined.

I’m passionate about teaching and my units of study.  This year, we will be working on:

Vocabulary instruction with a heavy focus on academic vocabulary

Greek Mythology (character analysis and thematic writing)

Jack London author study (theme and author’s craft)

    Twelve Angry Men (persuasive writing)

    A Midsummer Night’s Dream
