• My name is Suzanne Bessin. I have been teaching Spanish at Thompson Middle School since 1999.I grew up near San Francisco, and studied at U.C. Berkeley, where I majored in German Literature and minored in Spanish. I earned my Master’s Degree in Foreign Language Education at Stony Brook University.I began my teaching career in Northport, New York in 1988, where I taught German and Spanish. I taught at the middle and high school levels. In 1992, my family was invited to move to Hokkaido, Japan as part of a cultural exchange program. I taught conversational English to local people from ages 3 to 83. In 1995 we moved to Newport. I taught Spanish at Goff Junior High School in Pawtucket for four years.I have been very happy teaching Spanish at Thompson Middle School. I have also been part of the Newport Community School since its beginning. I currently teach origami and jewelry classes after school here at Thompson. When I’m not teaching I enjoy singing, swimming and learning to make jewelry. My children both attended Thompson and Rogers. My daughter graduated from Boston University. She is currently employed as an engineer. My son is currently completing his engineering degree at URI. Both live here in Newport.
