Principal's Weekly Update 03/22/2019

The annual SurveyWorks survey is now open.  SurveyWorks is a statewide survey sent out annually to hear from Rhode Islanders directly about their experiences in our state's public schools.    We encourage families to participate.  The survey can be accessed at surveys.panoramaed.com/ride
Please enter the access code 21106family. The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

~Our state testing, RICAS, is on the horizon.  Our test dates are:  April 8-11 for ELA, May 6-9 for Math, and May 14-15 for Science (grade 5 and 8 only).  To provide students with additional practice opportunities before testing, we are going to transform our Power Hour to Power UP for RICAS.  Students are being given time to become more familiar with the test platform as well as do specific practice with sample questions and released items.   Every opportunity that students have to interact with the test will have positive impacts.   Our goal is to give students the tools and motivation to improve their scores. We have so many on the cusp already from the hard work that our teachers put in! The general thought is that, with careful planning and the extra time, we can support our students to move to the next level. You can see sample RICAS released questions on the RIDE website: http://ricas.pearsonsupport.com/released-items/
(Our music ensembles will continue to meet on their assigned days.  Students will participate in Power UP on the non-ensemble days.)

~Congratulations to Mr. Chilton and the TMS band for the great job
they did in the Newport St. Patrick's Day Parade.  Next stop for the advanced band will be next week's trip to the RIMEA Jr. Band Festival at Exeter West Greenwich High School.  The orchestra will be participating in the RI Orchestra Festival at South Kingstown High School on April 1.

~The next PTO meeting will be held on April 25 at 5:30.  New members are always welcome.  Some important upcoming PTO dates:
  • The Yankee Candle (and more) Spring Fundraiser has begun.  Information packets have gone home with students.   This will run from March 22-April 5 with delivery by Mother's Day.  Orders placed with a student will be shipped to TMS and sent home with that student.  Orders placed on line will be shipped directly to you.  Visit www.yankeecandlefundraising.com and enter the code 990108526 in the "Start Shopping" section.
  • Mark your calendars for our annual night at the Newport Gulls baseball game. This year, it will be on June 10. Additional details will be forthcoming.

Thank you for your continuing support of TMS.
