SPORTS

■  Girls lacrosse is headed to Brown to play for the State Championship! The girls brushed back a feisty Cranston West team 17-8 to earn the trip to the final. Jane Leys netted eight goals and a couple of assists, Lauren Martland had four goals and an assist, Faye Callahan recorded three goals and two assists, Bridget Murphy and Liza Nunes netted a goal each and Emma Daigneault had an assist as the Vikings took advantage of the Falcons’ meltdowns. The defense played superb in the second half allowing only one second-half goal. The title game will be contested this Sunday at Brown's Stevenson Field at 1 pm versus Westerly.

■Shannon Ward scattered five hits and struck out 10 as she blanked Scituate 4-0 yesterday in quarterfinal softball action. The girls move on in the winner's bracket and will play Prout Saturday2 pm at RI College. After a passed ball scored the Viking first run Lily Bestoso had a timely hit that scored 2 more for Rogers. Izzy Booth and Michaela Mathews combined to score the team's final run.

■ Boys lacrosse saw their season come to an end last night in Chariho. The team faced the top-seeded and undefeated Chargers and gave them all they could handle. The boys entered the 4th quarter tied at 5 apiece. Unfortunately, our guys did not score again and fell to the Chargers. Congratulations boys on another wildly successful season and thank you to our outgoing seniors!
