On February 10, a team of five Culinary Arts students proudly earned second place at the state ProStart competition held at Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport Campus.

This prestigious event is Rhode Island’s premier showcase for the next generation of hospitality leaders. Students enrolled in the ProStart® Culinary Arts program put their skills to the test in front of industry professionals, competing for scholarships, prizes, and career-defining exposure.

The competition challenges teams to demonstrate advanced culinary techniques, teamwork, organization, and creativity under pressure. Our team of seniors was given a specific time limit to prepare a three-course fine dining meal while working with limited cooking resources — including access to only a single burner. Despite these constraints, they delivered an impressive and thoughtfully executed menu that earned high praise from the judges.

Two top teams from the state competition will advance to represent Rhode Island at the National ProStart Invitational in May, where students gain national recognition and expanded scholarship opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, professionalism, and outstanding performance. Their achievement reflects the strength of our Culinary Arts program and the bright future ahead for these talented young chefs.
