Currently in it's fifth year, Newport offers a highly innovative early college program called Pathways in Technology Early College High School (PTECH). PTECH students have the opportunity to obtain a high school diploma and associate degree in Cybersecurity/ Computer Networking from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). PTECH is a school-within-a-school model that uses a personalized approach to education – combining blended learning, real-world experience and college coursework to prepare students for high wage, high tech careers. PTECH students have the unique opportunity to:
-Graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree from CCRI in Cybersecurity or Computer Networking
-Gain professional experience through internships and work-based learning
-Get support and guidance from industry mentors
-Complete the program over a 4-6 year individualized pace
-Get the inside track to a high growth, high wage career
PTECH is part of the Newport Public School system, open to all students from the state of Rhode Island, at no cost to students or their families.
To apply, students must:
-Submit a completed application to your current guidance counselor
-Currently be enrolled in school and pass the eighth grade
-Enroll as a fulltime student
-Be motivated, hard-working and seeking a challenge
