College Testing Information

Most selective colleges still require students to complete either the ACT or the SAT as part of their application despite the long list of colleges for which standardized testing is optional. (see COVID-19 exceptions) 

Every college will accept either SAT or ACT results. Starting in the junior spring we work to help students determine which test suits them best. We recommend that students take their chosen standardized test more than once: three (3) tries at either the SAT or ACT is optimal.

The SAT II Subject Tests are required only by a very few of the most selective colleges. We work with students on an individual basis to determine if SAT II Subject Tests are needed.

Advanced Placement tests are never required for college admission, though strong results may result in higher placement or extra credit, once one begins college. They are not part of the college admissions process.

Both the pre-ACT and the PSAT (see below) are practice exercises designed to help students prepare to take the ACT or SAT. Scores on these tests are never part of a student’s college applications. Test results are only shared with the student, his/her family, and the College Counseling Office—never with the colleges.

Fee Waiver Eligibility: (See your counselor to get a waiver) 

You're eligible for fee waivers if you say "yes" to any of the following:

  • You're enrolled in or eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).

  • Your annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

  • You're enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., Federal TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).

  • Your family receives public assistance.

  • You live in federally subsidized public housing or a foster home, or are homeless.

  • You are a ward of the state or an orphan.

ROGERS TESTING SITE PROCEDURE: 

Student check-in will begin at 7:45 am at the 100 wing door in the front of Rogers High School.  The doors will close at 8:00 am.  Signs will be posted on the door.  Student should bring the following items:

  • Printed Admission Ticket

  • Photo ID

  • Two No.2 pencils with erasers

  • An acceptable calculator

Please do NOT bring a cell phone to the test center.  The duration of the test will depend on which test/tests your child is taking.  

  • Students taking the SAT with no essay will end at approximately 12:00 pm

  • Students taking the SAT with essay will end at approximately 12:55 pm

  • Students taking the SAT subject tests will end at approximately 12:00 pm

  • Students who have pre-approved extended time accommodations will finish at approximately 1:30 pm
