Student Grades:

Grades will not be discussed during class time. Discussions about grades and revisions should take place before or after school.

Google Classroom:

I use Google Classroom for each of my classes. An invitation will be sent to your school email (@https://www.npsri.net). It is imperative that you check you school email on a regular basis for important announcements and assignments. All major writing assignments will be uploaded to Google Classroom.

Extra Help:
I will be ensure that I am available at least one day after school for extra help.  I am also available, by appointment, every morning. Students are encouraged to utilize the support of the Newport Community School after school program where students have access to teachers from the core content areas and computers. Please do not wait until the last minute to seek out additional support with an assignment.

Attendance and Make-up Work:

The most important choice you make each day is to be in class. In the event you are absent, you must know the proper procedures for obtaining your work.

Excused Absence:

It is the student’s responsibility to make up all work after an excused absence.

You may obtain the missed assignment(s) from another student in the class, go to the appropriate bin to find a missed handout, read the assignment board, or you may see me before or after school for further details.

Unexcused Absence:

Make-up work for unexcused absences may be given at teacher discretion.

Homework requests for unexcused absences require a meeting with me before or after school.

Extended Absence:

Make-up work requests should be made outside of class time. Requests for work due to extended absences must go through the Dean’s office and/or Guidance office.

Homework:
All homework must be complete and handed in when prompted, on the day it is due. Late homework will not be accepted. The only exception is for excused absences. Refer to the RHS Homework Policy in the student handbook for full details.

Writing Assignments and Projects:
All writing assignments are to be typed, in MLA format. Again, I utilize Google Classroom in each of my classes. You will upload all extended writing assignments in Google Classroom. Unless specified, printed copies of papers will not be accepted.

Late Work Policy:
Major writing assignments, projects, and Performance Based Assessments must be submitted on time in order to receive full credit. Ten points will be deducted from the earned grade if submitted one day late. The highest grade a student can achieve after the second day late is a 75.  Please refer to the above homework policy in regards to late homework.

Revisions:

  • Required revisions: Ongoing revision is required for any student not achieving proficiency on a performance-based assessment. If proficiency has not been achieved by the end of the grading period, a grade of Incomplete will be given for that quarter.

  • Students may voluntarily revise major writing assignments and benchmarks after consultation with the teacher. Revisions must be made within one week after being returned to the student.

Plagiarism Policy:  Every student is expected to produce original, authentic work. If there is a misrepresentation of work, the student will receive a zero and parent(s)/guardian(s) will be contacted. If a second offense occurs, the Dean of Students will be notified as well and disciplinary action will be taken.

**Please note that this is a living document and there will be times when we will review additional procedures.
