Course description: The first quarter of English 11 will focus on a unit of study called "Literature and the Law," and the book The Catcher in the Rye will be utilized to show this concept. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements. Work in the first quarter will help prepare students for the response to literature PBA on The Catcher in the Rye, which will be assigned in the second quarter. The second quarter of English 11 will consist of completing a response to literature PBA on the novel The Catcher in the Rye. Later in the second quarter we will begin a unit on William Shakespeare's tragedy, Othello. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements. Work in the second quarter will help prepare students for the persuasive PBA that is part of the unit of study for Othello. The third quarter of English 11 will focus on completing the persuasive PBA for Othello, as well as introduce our final unit of study, which will be looking at beauty and perception. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements. Work in the third quarter will help students prepare for the reflective PBA, which will be assigned in the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter of English 11 will focus on students completing the perception and beauty unit of study and reflective PBA. Non-fiction materials will be utilized as supplemental texts. Students will also complete their independent reading requirements.
