Dan Swain from Newport Festivals Foundation

The big news came during the opening of last night’s Rogers High School Winter Concert. Dan Swain, Director of Programs and Development for the Newport Festivals Foundation, surprised the audience with an opportunity for RHS seniors.

The Newport Festivals Foundation is graciously donating a free ticket to Sunday of the Newport Jazz Festival to grade 12 students in honor of their pending graduation. This gift is also to celebrate the return of music at Rogers and is given in honor of the foundation’s late founder, George Wein.

Congratulations to RHS Music Educator, Mr. Richard Stanley, for the full spectrum of musical talents at the Winter Concert. From the Orchestra, Rock Combo, Jazz Band, and Concert Band, the RHS cafeteria resonated with the creative sounds and countless hours of work from students.

In addition, congratulations to advisor, Mrs. Corey Johnson, RHS Computer Technology & Music Educator, and to the inductees who were honored into the Tri-M Music Honor Society: Grace Williams, Devon Vaillancourt, Emma Hoag & Camellia I. Welch.

With "Music in our Schools" in the month of March, the Rogers Winter Concert demonstrated the strong new beginnings and strength of the music program at Newport Public Schools. This rebuilding of the Music program is another facet of the new RHS building project construction! Kudos to all.
