Course description:  Traces the evolution of Europe from the Scientific Revolution to the Age of Napoleon

                                                             Other primary and secondary sources

Course materials: All students are required to maintain a notebook and binder/folder for course materials

                             Landmarks of Western Art series: The Baroque; From Rococo to Revolution, and

                             Romanticism

                             The French Revolution (documentary)

RH1: Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of primary and secondary sources, attending to such features as the date and origin of the information.

RH2: Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of how key events or ideas develop over the course of a text.

RH3: Analyze in detail a series of events described in a text; determine whether earlier events caused later ones or simply preceded them.

RH4: Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary describing political, social, or economic aspects of history/social science.

RH5: Analyze how a text uses structure to emphasize key points or advance an explanation or analysis. (textbook: The Western Heritage 9th (AP) Edition

RH6: Compare the point of view of two or more authors for how they treat the same or similar topics

WH1: Write arguments focused on discipline-specific content

WH2: Write informative/explanatory texts, including the narration of historical events

WH4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. 

WH5: Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach, focusing on addressing what is most significant for a specific purpose and audience. 

 

SL4: Present information, findings, and supporting evidence, conveying a clear

and distinct perspective, such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning,

alternative or opposing perspectives are addressed, and the organization,

development, substance, and style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and a

range of formal and informal tasks.

Summative Assessments: (Total value toward grade = %)

·         Tests – 40% Test for each chapter using questions from released AP Exams

                              Benchmark – Oral Presentations based on “The Days of the French  

                                                        Revolution”

                                                   Rubric assessed- RHS Oral Presentation Rubric- Due in late January
