Quarters Three and Four Newsletter

Dear 7C2 Families:

Quarter Three is in the rearview mirror and Quarter Four is in full swing. The theme for Quarters Three and Four is Ecology. Students have learned about vertebrates including reptiles, amphibians and birds. The Norman Bird Sanctuary (NBS) brought these topics to life for the students during two presentations in school and we have taken the first of two field trips to NBS. We have also raised salmon in the classroom that were released in the Wood River as part of the Department of Environmental Management's Salmon Restoration Project.

Next week we get the much anticipated chicken eggs from Casey Farm. Seventh graders will also be treated to a presentation from the farm when they drop off the eggs. If all goes well, there will be a group of chicks hatched the in the classroom around June fourth!

As mentioned before we will be taking a lot of field trips during Quarter Four. There are three remaining field trips: on May 17 Clean Ocean Access will be taking students on a guided walk of the Newport Harbor waterfront, on May 21 we return to the Norman Bird Sanctuary for a field trip focused on freshwater ecology and on June 14 we will go to Casey Farm for an all day field trip to see the chickens we hatched, tour the farm and do a shoreside lesson on Narragansett Bay. Some parents have been in touch with me regarding chaperoning, please feel free to email me at taylorrock@npsri.net if interested in attending a field trip with the clas
