SPORT PARTICIPATION
**Spring 2025: We now have on-line registration. See the instructions below.**
Sports registration info and instructions (read first):
All athletes wanting to participate in interscholastic athletics during any season, must have the following paperwork completed before the first day of practice. Once it is completed, it is good for the entire school year.
1. Online Registration: Each season athletes and parents must register for the sport in which the student will be participating. This will complete the Parent Permission, and Emergency Contact Information.
**If you have an existing family account and do not remember login information please contact the Athletics Office. Do not create a new account.**
2. Physical: A CURRENT athletic physical completely filled out, dated, and signed by your physician. A physical is considered current, if it is within the last twelve months.
3. Rhode Island Interscholastic League Risk Form: Each student needs this RIIL form filled out and notarized once in their Middle School Career (and once again in High School). Blank forms will be linked in the registration, or available at the school.

Instructions for on-line registration
To register, you will need the following information ready:
Date of last physical
Insurance information - provider name and policy number
Your doctor's contact information
Click the link - Online Registration Link Here - to go to the NPS registration site. You land on the Newport Public Schools Athletics page.
FIRST, scroll down to either:
Create a New User account, or
Login returning users (if you have previously signed up a student in your family at Thompson MS or Rogers HS)
Once you are logged in:
Select "Registration" at the top center , under the NPS red and white banner. Select Thompson Middle School of Newport.
Fill out the registration steps (select next on each page, not Save for Later) *there has been an issue at the start. Don’t select the “add new” if you come across it, Look for the “Register” button.
Submit the registration.
If you haven't already, get the required paperwork (Physical and RIIL form) to the school athletic director right away so students will be eligible for the upcoming season.

Athletic Forms are REQUIRED for each athlete. The entire packet must be complete and turned in prior to the first practice. The forms, along with the notarized Assumption of Risk form (we have a TMS notary) are good for all three years of middle school sports. Physicals are the exception and must be updated yearly.
