Quarter Two Wrap-up

Posted by Taylor Rock on 2/21/2019 4:00:00 PM

Welcome to the second quarterly newsletter of the 2018 - 2019 School Year. Your students in 7C2 science focused primarily on physical science and chemical interactions. Some topics that we focused on were kinetic energy, solutions, energy transfer phase change and reactions. Engineering and design concepts where also introduced through the design of thermoses to limit energy transfer from hot water. Students did a fantastic job with their designs and building.

Students were also engaged through a series of "maker days" where students are challenged to create based on a prompt that includes science topics and vocabulary words. "Maker days" support Next Generation Science Standards in the area of engineering. Thank you to the parents and students who supplied recycled materials for the maker days!! These days will continue through the spring and donations are still being taken.

Looking ahead to the spring and Quarter Three our attention will shift from physical science and chemical interactions to ecology and life sciences. Students will hear from many guests speakers from the community including the Aquidneck Land Trust and the Norman Bird Sanctuary. There will also be a host of field trips for students to learn about our local ecosystems. Parents are always welcome to attend our field trips as a chaperone.
