Welcome to 6th grade math. We have a book to support the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Math Course I. This book will stay in school for some classes and other classes I will send a book that will stay at home. I will use many more materials to support the book. In Grade 6, instructional time will focus on four critical areas:  (1) connecting ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.

Students will be given homework Monday through Thursday night.  It is a rare night when they don’t have homework.  Students should be entering the assignment in their agenda on a daily basis.  Please feel free to check it.

Bring to class every day

Grading

The grade will be based on a combination of tests (40%), quizzes (35%), class work/participation (15%), and homework (10%).

Homework

A Helpful hint: Have your child reread the text book and or notes from class. If your child is still confused they may come into my class when they get off the bus for help or stay after school for additional support. If a child misses a home work assignment they must stay after school the next day to make it up.
