Pell Elementary School 2nd grade teacher Sybil Grayko has been named Newport Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year for the 2025-2026 school year. Ms. Grayko has been with the district for 21 years. She has a passion for teaching environmental sustainability through project-based learning. In 2018, she received an Ocean Stewardship Award from the New England Aquarium in Boston for her work with students to reduce the use of plastic straws and educate them about the dangers of one-time-use plastics.
Newport and our students are very lucky to have such a bright energetic caring teacher. Ms. Grayko lights up a room the moment she enters and makes learning and being in school an adventure and fun for all. Each and every student in her classroom is made to feel special and loved. It was a testament to see students who have graduated or are now in high school attended yesterday’s ceremony to celebrate this wonderful woman. We love our Sybil Grayko!!

La maestra de la escuela primaria Pell, Sybil Grayko, ha sido nombrada Maestra del Año del Distrito de Newport 2026
La señora Grayko ha sido maestra de segundo grado en Pell durante 21 años. Tiene una pasión por enseñar la sostenibilidad ambiental a través del aprendizaje basado en proyectos. En 2018, recibió un Premio de Stewardship Oceánico del Acuario de Nueva Inglaterra en Boston por su trabajo con los estudiantes para reducir el uso de popotes de plástico y educarlos sobre los peligros de los plásticos de un solo uso.
Newport y nuestros estudiantes tienen mucha suerte de tener una maestra tan brillante, enérgica y cariñosa. La Sra. Grayko ilumina una habitación en el momento en que entra y hace que aprender y estar en la escuela sea una aventura y divertido para todos. Cada uno de sus estudiantes en el aula se siente especial y amado. Fue un testimonio ver a estudiantes que se han graduado o que ahora están en la escuela secundaria asistir a la ceremonia de ayer para celebrar a esta maravillosa mujer. ¡Amamos a nuestra Sybil Grayko!!
