Hi! My name is Kim Hassan and I have the pleasure of teaching second grade at Pell Elementary School!  This will be my 12th year teaching elementary school!  It is a wonderful and exciting grade to teach and I truly enjoy encouraging each of my students’ growth on their path of becoming life-long learners.

I am a native Rhode Islander growing up in North Kingstown and now residing in Middletown with my family.  I am married to my wonderful husband Scott and we are the proud parents of Kyle and Amanda.  This year my son Kyle transferred to  University of Rhode Island where he is studying mechanical engineering and is a pitcher for their baseball team.  Amanda is entering her senior year of high school and is actively involved in student council and sports playing soccer, basketball and softball.  We also have a crazy, but loveable, yellow lab named KJ.

I earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from the University of Rhode Island.  Upon graduating, I worked as an accountant for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center for 8 years.  While raising my children and volunteering in my son’s classroom, I came to the realization that I wanted a change in career paths.  I decided to pursue a degree in elementary education at Roger Williams University and eventually earned a Masters of Arts and Teaching. After completing my student teaching in a first grade classroom at Underwood Elementary School I knew Newport Public School is where I wanted to teach!  I substitute taught in year-long position at Sullivan School and was officially hired that following year!  As a teacher for Newport Public School I taught fourth grade at Underwood School and second grade at Carey School, Cranston Calvert School, and Pell School.  Although education has changed significantly in the 12 years I have been teaching with the adoption of the Common Core Standards , one thing hasn’t changed and that is my commitment to education.  I am passionate about education and it is my goal to help each child reach their fullest potential and instill in him or her a desire to be a life-long learner!
