Mrs. Brule

Dear Families,

Welcome to 3rd Grade!  I am very excited to start our year at Pell with YOU!  This will be my 16th year teaching in the Newport Public Schools.  I  am a mother of four children and can assure you that I absolutely LOVE what I do. We will be very busy this year.  If we work together, we will all enjoy a very successful school year.  Below are some of the routines we will have in our classroom.  Please help us stay organized by following along with these policies.  Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.  I am here to help!  I look forward to working with your child, as my goal is to bring out the BEST in each and every student in my class!

Family Folders:  Your child will bring this folder home EACH night and will return it the following day.  These folders will hold any notices, notes, or papers for you to check out.  Please use the family folder to send notes to me as well.  I CHECK THEM EACH MORNING!

PBIS:  Pell School is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school. This means we follow a school-wide positive behavior system in all areas of our building, designed to promote positive behavior throughout our school.  PBIS “teaches” students expectations and provides a step by step process for children to learn behavioral expectations in all school settings.  You will hear your child talk about being a STAR during the days and weeks ahead. STAR stands for our 4 expected behaviors (Staying safe, Taking responsibility, Acting respectfully, and being Ready to learn!  Students will be earning starbucks throughout the school day for illustrating positive behavior in school which can later be cashed in for rewards and privileges.  We are all going to shine like STARS this year!!!

Snacks:  We have a small snack time in Grade 3 .  Usually, it is a working snack so students may be reading or writing while snacking.  If you would like your child to have a snack, you must send in a snack from home.  Snacks will not be provided.  Please note that our snack time is limited so small healthy snacks are best.  Students are allowed to keep a water bottle in class to take drinks throughout the day – please only fill water bottles with WATER (no juice, soda, etc.)

School Supplies:  I have purchased most supplies for your child on my own.  My students are seated at tables so we are limited in storage space for personal belongings.  I strongly encourage you to keep any special supplies at home for homework purposes.  If you would like to contribute an item or two to our classroom, please see the supplies list.  I usually send one home each month to let you know what we are in need of throughout the year.  If at all possible, I am asking each family to contribute one dry erase marker for student use in the classroom.

Early Dismissal/ Change in Dismissal:  Please send in a note if you plan on having your child dismissed early (i.e. appointment) or if he/she will be dismissed in a different way (going home with a friend/aunt, etc.).  YOUR CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED IN HIS/HER USUAL WAY UNLESS WE HAVE WRITTEN PERMISSION OR YOU HAVE CALLED THE SCHOOL PRIOR TO DISMISSAL TIME.  For safety reasons, we must follow this rule. Thanks!
