Pell Elementary School English Teacher Kathryn Caruolo Named 2024 Newport District Teacher of the Year

Pell Elementary School English Language teacher Kathryn Caruolo has been named Newport Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year.

Mrs. Caruolo has been an English Language and Grade 1 teacher at Pell since 2013. She previously taught at Cranston-Calvert, Thompson Middle School, and Sullivan School. In addition to her work with Newport Public Schools, she is also an Adjunct Professor in Education at Salve Regina University.

“Mrs. Caruolo is a fierce and powerful educator for all our students in Newport. She is an excellent role model and great supporter of our English learner students and their families. She is a mentor to so many future teachers and Newport has been fortunate to benefit from her amazing talents. We are so pleased to honor her hard work with our Teacher of the Year award. This is long overdue,” said Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain, Ed.D.

Mrs. Caruolo was nominated for Teacher of the Year recognition by the Director of English Learners, Dr. Ronilee Mooney, and chosen by a team of her teaching peers.

“Kate has an impeccable ability to constantly improve her instructional practice to serve the diverse students in our Newport Schools,” said Ronilee Mooney. “She is one of the best.”
