Section 504 Accommodations

Section 504/ADA Accommodations
for Our Students

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is the portion the Rehabilitation Act, originally authorized under Public Law 93-112, in 1973. This federal civil rights law (20 U.S.C. 1405; 29 U.S.C. 794) was enacted to prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities based solely reason of their disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

Section 504 was amended by the Reauthorization of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 2008, effective January 1, 2009.   Similar to Section 504, the ADA is another federal law aimed at ending discrimination.  The Newport Public Schools honors the intent and requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the ADA, with respect to our students with disabilities.  If you have a child with a disability and seek accommodations in order for him/her to access school and school activities, please contact your school principal or guidance counselor.
